Here is a more simplified installation procedure for WCF for those who want to get started.
Installing items in this order are fairly important for success:
- Create a VirtualPC (VPC 2004 or VSVR2005) for WS2K3SP1 or use the PreBuilt Beta2 one from Microsoft and skip #2
- Install VS2005 Beta2 and SQL2005 Beta2
- Install WinFX Runtime Components Beta1
- Install WinFX SDK Beta 1
- Install COM+ Hotfix for Indigo
- Install Indigo Beta 1 MSMQ Support Package
- Install Visual Studio Extensions for WinFX Beta 1
If you install everything in this order and reboot after the 2 Hotfix installs everything should work fine and allow you to create the two “Hello World” for WCF applications in VS2005. The instructions given in the article refer to a Windows Application Pack which either doesn't exist or is what may be a future name for the WinFX SDK.
Goldberg said Microsoft will provide more information on WinFS, Indigo and Avalon in September at the company's Professional Developer's Conference in Los Angeles. "That's where we will unveil our entire development picture," he said.
Also, in case you haven't heard, the “official” name for Indigo in the future will be “Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)”
The development picture is going to be very exciting, this will change the entire landscape of Distributed Computing, the idea of Web Services, Remoting, MTS and several other ancient technologies much for the better. Yes, distributed or Grid computing on a Microsoftcentric platform will now be a reality and will be easy enough for mere mortals to program.

I will be attending and blogging at PDC again this year, I look forward to providing special coverage of every session I can possibly attend on Indigo.
In fact, I am about to start posting in mass quantity about Indigo and my reasons for believing it will change the world as much as Netscape did in 1997.
