MS W2K3 and Bluetooth

You know, I really understand driver issues and new Os version, but for cryin' out loud this thing has been around for at least 6 months and they haven't fixed it yet.

They seem to think no one will ever install a MS Bluetooth Keyboard on W2K3 Server...

Here is a fix/hack.

Note: this did not completely work for me, I still had to MANUALLY install the Bluetooth Drivers by running hdwwiz.cpl in the extracted hotfix directory, then it installed everything from the CD that it needed and the driver setup correctly.  Until I did this bluetooth was not enabled and I had no Wireless Link Control Panel.

You may have to hit the connect/channel buttons a couple times to initially recognize the devices.

Note: one moderately annoying thing to point out... Using a bluetooth KB exclusively makes it impossible to get to your BIOS since it doesn't have any BIOS drivers.  You will need to have a spare USB or PS/2 kb to edit your BIOS settings.

This is the method that worked for me...

1. Install http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/C/7/1C7B6A36-8277-4828-91A4-613E743A3697/IP5_0ENG.exe
2. Install http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/4/4/04485C0D-2BDE-4EF7-BFCF-85A6B99E7FC0/ITP5_0Eng.exe
3. copy Prereq\BthStack\Enu\Q323183_wxp_sp2_x86_enu.exe on the CD to your HD
4. expand it with winzip/winrar to a folder
5. edit C:\q323183_wxp_sp2_x86_enu\update\update.inf and change :
NtBuildToUpdate = 2600
NtMajorVersionToUpdate = 5
NtMinorVersionToUpdate = 1
MaxNtBuildToUpdate = 2600
MaxNtMajorVersionToUpdate = 5
MaxNtMinorVersionToUpdate = 1
MinNtServicePackVersion = 256
MaxNtServicePackVersion = 256
ThisServicePackVersion = 256

to

NtBuildToUpdate = 3790
NtMajorVersionToUpdate = 5
NtMinorVersionToUpdate = 2
MaxNtBuildToUpdate = 3790
MaxNtMajorVersionToUpdate = 5
MaxNtMinorVersionToUpdate = 2
MinNtServicePackVersion = 0
MaxNtServicePackVersion = 0
ThisServicePackVersion = 0

6. run update.exe
7. go up one directory from /update and dbl-click hdwwiz.cpl
8. follow instructions and it should be installed.
9. attach the kb/mouse with irprops.cpl
10. enjoy your kb/mouse that should have had a one-click installer by now :-/

Hi! I'm asking for help, where could I find drivers for instalation of Microsoft Wireless Optical
Desktop for Bluetooth for windows millenium?
Thank you!

# re: MS W2K3 and Bluetooth 2/9/2005 4:14 PM Steele

sorry, no idea, the lack of support for just about anything (including native XP installs) forced me to get rid of the keyboard/mouse and buy something else.

Too bad, it was sort of nice, but the bad communications and hassle of drivers was just too much to deal with. I have a NON Bluetooth system now and everything is happy.
